I received the Janome 1600P in great shape. I am pleased with the machine and found it works great for normal stitching, however I think I may have bit off more than I can chew when using this machine for free arm. I need much more practice and patience to master my quilting projects.... mostly patience. If you have suggestions, I am open to them.
Janome 1600P-QC
So far I have enjoyed this sewing machine.
Love, love love
This machine is so great! It sews through anything. I love free motion quilting with it and it’s so quick. I have a much more expensive machine with all sorts of fancy features and I use this one more. I do wish you could drop the feed dogs but I just throw a silicone slider on it to cover them while I do free motion. This machine is great! I’m so happy I bought it.
Love this machine
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good heavy duty machine. It sewed through 5 layers of double faced fleece like going through butter. Excellent value.
Dream Machine
If you love to make quilts this is your machine. It is easy to thread. I have been using all purpose thread by Coats and Clark to piece with and have no problems at all. I have been sewing for years but never before have I had a machine handle like this one! The pressure foot does all the work for you. There is no clunking of fabric into the needle hole everything just glides along.… read more I highly recommend this machine!
Good starter
I have used an old Singer from 1930 (inherited) that I hand crank. And finally I upgraded to something electric. I make a quilt every couple of years so all of my stitching is in little short straight bursts. But, I am getting older and I wanted something to make everything easier. I love that it is almost identical to a Singer in the bobbin, the feet, and the controls. I tried… read more a Bullet Bobbin machine and just couldn't get use to it. I somehow like the spooling bobbin method. Well... I do love my Singer for nostalgic reasons, but to get things going fast, this 1600 is great. And it easily mounts to a Grace quilting table to make the final product easier. The only negative is that the thing comes coated in oil. I have to wash up after every use because everything is coated in oil. I am sure that will clear up in time.
