I have never sewed before but right out of the box I was able to wind a bobbin, install a bobbin, thread the machine and sew. The on board tutorials are excellent. I also embroidered something right out of the box, again using the tutorials to switch out the bobbin case and install the embroidery arm, modify a design and go! As a newbie, I'm very glad I went a ahead and blew the… read more budget for this machine. Just beware quilters, there is no "cheap" walking foot made for this machine. Only a $400 option. Disappointing after dropping $4k on the machine. However Janome makes one that fits for about $25. You'll need to adjust the stitch width in order not to break your needle. I dont know the model number but your local dealer should be able to help you out. The machine has lots of settings and features which I am still learning after 2 months of ownership. If you are not a newbie like me, you could easily ignore all the on board help. It doesnt leap out at you, I go looking for it. The menus are intuitive and I love the lighting.
